I was born in the north of France in the 1960s, an era when music already seemed to pulse through my veins. From my earliest childhood, it was my silent companion, my secret language. But it was in 1973, when I discovered The Dark Side of the Moon, that everything took a decisive turn. That album was a true revelation for me, a sonic mirror in which my soul recognized itself. At that very moment, I began to compose—first in the silence of my mind, with melodies without form, harmonies without outlines—and since then, I have never stopped creating.
I didn’t seek to become a composer right away. My early musical years were spent hosting countless parties in the North and Brittany, where notes danced with words and memories. But composition was still a distant idea, a promise waiting to be fulfilled. It wasn’t until I was 30, after my studies and a few years of professional life, that I decided to take music seriously. Piano, music theory, harmony… I immersed myself in the study of music’s secret codes, slowly, as one learns a hidden language.
I took my first steps in composition with programs like Pro24, and later Cubase on an Atari. But life, with its relentless rhythm, gradually pulled me away from my passion. I was caught up in the company I had founded, too absorbed by the daily grind to let my musical dreams fully bloom.
Then came 2020. The world froze, time stood still, and in that silence brought on by Covid, everything changed. No more meetings, no more orders… It was the moment. I finally allowed myself to compose, to reconnect with that inner voice that had been whispering melodies to me. I acquired some new gear, and in the intimacy of my studio, I brought Bréhat Island to life, a composition inspired by the island of Bréhat, a place of escape and childhood memories. This track, initially instrumental, had no lyrics—just a voice-over, murmuring fragments of the past.
The first to hear this sonic journey were my friends, and their encouragement lifted me. They found something true in the piece. This gave me the push I needed to continue, to craft new sounds, to compose 10 instrumental tracks, each inspired by the landscapes and soul of Brittany, a land that has nourished my imagination since my childhood holidays, between the ages of 5 and 25.
In 2023, following the advice of my friends, I took another step: I wrote lyrics and added vocals to the music. In the meantime, I honed my mixing skills, learning from Jaff, a sound engineer at La Cabane à Son in the Paris region, to give my compositions a polished form that felt truly mine.
And now, after four years of passionate and meticulous work, I am proud to present my album: Welcome to Brittany. A musical journey, a tribute to Brittany, its landscapes, its breezes, and the gentle melancholy that resides within me. Finally, I can share with you what I’ve created, what I’ve poured into every note, every chord, every breath.
I hope you like it…
Enjoy listening
Sincerely
Etienne
